Graduate School Revisited

The past 10 days have reminded me of Graduate School. Why???
Well, during the second quarter (yes I went to school on the quarter system) of graduate school I had a three week period where I had a major project due every other day. I went from one project, to the next, to the next... you get the picture. I was so glad when that period of time was over with. That's what I feel like the past 10 days have been like for me. So, here is a sample of some of the things that I've been doing...

  • Spring Cleaning... aka "Feng Shui"
  • Finished a quilt for my niece Jannica
  • Posting and selling items on ksl.com
  • Relief Society Presidency Meeting & Visits
  • Draper Temple Open House - The open house was very nice. After going through the temple we ended up in the cultural hall of the chapel next to the temple. They had an 'art gallery' and refreshments while we waited for our bus.

Mike and Alexis in the covered walkway leading into the temple.

Alexis's favorite picture!

Sidney's favorite picture - which also hangs in the chapel of the Temple!

Sidney, Alexis and Mike

  • Relief Society Phone Calls
  • DUP (Yes, I joined the Daughters of Utah Pioneers a couple of years ago!)
  • DUP project for our next meeting
  • Made yogart from scratch using my food storage

Yogart - yes it really works and taste great!

  • Invited my niece Jannica to come to our home for lunch - which means I had to make lunch - and I gave Jannica her quilt!

Jannica, wrapped up in her new quilt!

  • Presented a demonstration on making yogart to members of our stake
  • More Relief ... Oh, did I already mention this?!?!!!
  • Managing our rental properties aka The Teslin Group, LLC
  • Driving to Ogden to take care of some business at our rental properties
  • Visited the fabric store (Yes this is very important!)
  • Finally... I had time to relaxed and read this book Nighttime is my time by Mary Higgins Clark

I'm looking forward to a more tranquil week next week!

The Wash...

Scenario...

Early this morning...

Sidney mentions to Mike: "Let's wash the sheets when you get up." Translated - Don't make the bed

11:30ish this morning...

Mike: Which wash cycle should I use to wash the sheets? Medium?

Sidney: Pause... Well, that depends on whether or not we have any towels or rags that need to be washed.

Mike: Aahh... That's where we DIFFER IN OUR WASHING PHILOSOPHIES! You know, I was a BACHELOR for a lot of years... (I think that this is the first time Mike has ever thrown in his 'bachelor' status for a little emphasis!)

Sidney: Laughter....

Blog Poll
Please vote for your favorite 'wash philosophy'!

Wash Philosophies

Mike: You should wash the sheets separately - without other items - because they are so expansive, they need to be able to turn over and move freely in the water because there is so much of an area that needs to be washed. If you put other things in them, such as towels, there is less opportunity for the [sheet] fabric to have water pass through it freely - aka wash them!

Sidney: The fuller the washer - with the same types of items, washed the same way - the less laundry to do.

Please vote... The polls will be open for 14 days. I can't wait to hear what you think!

Bartering...

Early this week I read a blog where a woman had traded quilting for a pair of hand knitted socks. I thought, "I wouldn't mind trading my talents for something I need or wanted."
But then the thought creeps in... "What talents do I have?"
Luckily, within a day or two, the phone rang and friend called asking her if I would help her make a slip cover for child's couch. To make a long story short... I made the slip cover and she brought over a delicious meal of chicken cordon blue with a teryaki sauce and rice. We are BOTH HAPPY!!!
I was able to sew and make this cute slip cover, (picture below) and I didn't have to worry about dinner, because it was already made. (Plus, we have leftovers will last us three meals!!!) Thanks Jodi!!!

P.S. I'm willing to sew for about anything... I'd even take a Marie Calendar's Pie! (They happen to be on sale right now and I saw the ad!)

Feng Shui... Again!

At 3:15am this morning, I awoke with the impression that it was time for me to start decluttering again... Mike and I call this 'Feng Shui', which is a VERY LOOSE description and action of this eastern art.

By 4:45am, I was up and cleaning... I'll be listing things on ksl.com for days to come, but I've already sold three items!

One lady even called me at 6:10am this morning. I thought it was Mike calling to tell me that he would be late coming home from work! When people see a bargain, it doesn't matter what time they call!

Everyone looks at things differently. Mike, for example, is very nostolgic. He keeps that give him that feeling of nostalgia.

For me, I love the things I have been given or purchase for myself, but over time, they fulfill their purpose and place in my life and then I feel it is time to let them go. Be free things, be free and thus I become FREE!

Note: Many declutter books state that when you let things go, you make room for new things to be brought in to your life! I personally agree with this philosphy.

(Does this mean I'll be buying more things??? Who knows!!!)

For now, I will relish the opportunity to sell my things to others so that they may receive enjoyment from them for a season!

Info..

I've had several people ask "Who Died?" in our ward, that would bring Pres. Monsen and Elder Holland to the funeral. Since, I'm not sure exactly how the blogging response works, I decided I'd make a quick post.

Here's the link to the individual...

He and his wife live on Redondo and because of health reasons, haven't been out to church for several years...
